First German Freestyle Battle

While hanging around at the German SURF Festival in Pelzerhaken, Baltic Sea, a couple of Germany's best freestyle windsurfers decided to run a pure freestyle competition. This idea came up because we found out that many freestyle windsurfers in Germany were very unhappy with the current situation during DWC competitions where the emphasis is put on racing and slalom leaving but little interest and budget for a real freestyle competition.
It did not take long to find a photographer and a camera team as well as some brands to support the event. In the end, nearly all of Germany's best freestyle riders came together on the beach of Großenbrode to run an elimination. The level on the water was quite high with some PWA sailors like Normen Günzlein and Adrian Beholz attending the competition. The riders judged themselves and we were all quite happy with the fair results even though there were some really close heats. I got fourth place in the end which is a result that I am really happy about. I could land some switch konos, shakas and culos in my heats. We also had a great photosession near a harbour wall. A video about the event is to be released soon.

Results:

1. Adrian Beholz ( F2/ Hot Sails)
2. Normen Günzlein (JP/ Neil Pryde)
3. Tilo Eber (JP/ Neil Pryde)
4. Mathias Genkel (RRD/RRD)
5. Max Droege (JP/ Neil Pryde)
5. Johannes Witte ( Naish/Naish)
5. Daniel Schenk ( Tabou/Vandal)
5. Tobias Schwarz ( Windflüchter / Naish)

SUP-airtime

Hi guy's,

Last weekend we had a leg of the Belgian Championship racing Kite and Windsurfing in Duinbergen, Knokke.

Unfortunately the wind was missing most of the time, there were only run some Formula heats on the 3 day event. So that ment SUP-time, I had 7 boards being used on this event and 4 SUP's were in test on an other event 30 km South.
This was broadcasted on national TV, on their Youth channel. "ketnet"

The kids interviewed explained in a nice way that it was great fun to be on a SUP and that is was the perfect workout on windless day's.

Skyeboy 2nd in Ireland

After a disappointing no wind event in Rhosneigr, we came to Ireland
with a pretty good forecast. The swell didn't really kick in as we had
hoped, but still there was enough to run the contest. Conditions were
pretty hard for competing, with inconsistent waves making it a bit of
a lottery. The first couple of heats went well and I found some good
waves, but the final didn't go quite so well. Until the final 5
minutes I was really struggling, but had a couple of good ones right
at the end to sort me out. Final results were Timo in 4th, Phil 3rd,
myself 2nd and Ben 1st. Congratulations Ben, he was ripping all day.
Now we have to hope for the double elimination where I get a chance to
improve the result and hopefully have another go at Ben.

In the end I had to settle for 2nd place. They managed to run 3/4 of
the double elimination, but the wind dropped right at the end and that
was it for competition. It would have been nice to have another go at
beating Ben, but still 2nd is a good start to the year. We had a
couple of really good surfs on the last day, some of the best waves I
have ever had. Next stop is Morocco. I have a nightmare journey from
ireland to Gatwick, with almost no sleep and over 24 hours of
travel!!! should be fun once I am there though.

Korea Slalom resume - Jesper Orth AUS 10

Hi RRD family

Here is a little resume from the PWA slalom in Korea

I used in all heats the RRD Xfire 122 with good success. The only fin
I used was the 42 Vector molded Canefire for all sail sizes (8.9, 8.3
and 7.3).

Mostly I used the KA Koncept 8.3, wich is a 3 camber sail with
narrower luffsleve.

With this combination of gear I feel pretty good this year. The Xfire
is just so easy and comfortable to sail and in the jibes it is the
best slalom boards I have had under my feets for a long time. I don't
matter how you come in to the jibes on those boards. Max speed / low
speed / narrow / or wide jibe/ back on the board / or more forward,,
--- It don't matter! They do it all with great ease, so you can at all
time attack with great confidence.

My overall result was 20th, witch is OK. But looking back I had 2
rounds where I was in the qualifying position for top 16 results as I
was 3rd until the 2nd last mark in the quarterfinals. One time I
simply felt in after the jibe (not sure why), with no pressure from
behind and another time I was a bit unlucky to jibe into a big
windless patch and simply could not get going, and sailors was
catching up from behind,,

Anyway I feel good and is looking very much forward to the next event
in Costa Brava the 8-13 june.

I had a few sailors trying the boards, and they love them :)

Ciao

Jesper

PWA Ulsan World Cup - Finian words after race 6

Ciao, The penultimate day here in Jinha beach produced some tricky conditions. I was unlucky to go out in the quarterfinal as I was first in the heat but it was canceled due to lack of wind and then in the re-run I could barely make the first mark as the wind shifted 20 degrees before the start.

The second round I came back to score a 3rd but I must count the 18.5 from round 5 due to my mistake of the first day, a killer as that takes me off the podium. The wind forecast is not good for tmrw but I am hoping for 1 more race to get the 2nd discard and get back on the podium. I am not happy with 6th but this is racing at the highest level. The boards feel really good and I am happy with the new 2010 XF. All the best, Finian

PWA Ulsan World Cup - Finian cruised into third position!

Following two days on standby, day five of competition began in a similar fashion. However, with signs of the weather clearing up, race director, Juan Antonio Aragon, made the call for the sailors to be ready to race at a moment's notice. By 14:30 there were promising signs that racing would take place, and within the hour, the competition was in full swing.

Whilst most of the world's best were hitting the wall, Finian Maynard (RRD, Gaastra) was quietly plugging away, making amends for his premature start in the very first race of the contest. After winning all of his heats, he cruised into the final and sailed home in 3rd, putting him back on the radar and in the top 3 overall.

Finian words:
"Today started with some rain and full clouds. It was looking unlikely that we would race but at 3pm there was a break in the weather and the wind started very quickly to build. By 430pm we were fully powered and the racing was on. I used my 10.0 and 135 combination, felt pretty good as I have not had much time on this set-up before the event. I think tomorrow looks good on the forecast and we are expecting good winds. I hope to race well and I will try my best to get some good
results."

PWA Ulsan World Cup – Results After Day 4

1st Antoine Albeau (JP, NeilPryde) 3.4 pts

2nd Bjorn Dunkerbeck (Starboard, Severne) 7.7 pts

3rd Finian Maynard (RRD, Gaastra) 13.7 pts

4th Steve Allen (Severne)14.0 pts

5th Jimmy Diaz (Starboard, North)14.0 pts

One back

Hello everybody!

The spring has come windy and wavy in this part of Mediterranean, and
we are having nice slalom training days mixed with exciting wave
sessions.
In both of them the RRD boards do the most.

I send you some nice pics. I hope that you enjoy them.

Arrivederci.
