Naxos Prince of the wind 8.-11. October

Event in Naxos is over. We were all expecting big, very well organized event with good wind and action, but we got much more than that. Event was organized on much different level than until now.

This was the first so professional event I have ever been to so far. Almost no PWA event can compare with it (well… Sylt is simply massive). If I sum up a bit...

The day before the event we had strong wind around 25kts or more. I was sailing with 4.7 and 100l RRD Twintip. In the afternoon we had a supersession upwind in the port of Naxos. There was for sure a few hundred people who enjoyed the session and also helicopter was every minute around with photographer and cameraman.

The first day of competition we had good wind until afternoon, but then it dropped a bit. That was not a problem cause we started really early like (at 8 or 9 o clock in the morning), so we managed to do a full double elimination. Later in the evening we had very nice photo shooting from the water.

Every evening a very delicious dinner was organized for the riders and accommodation was free of charge. The last day, there was not much wind as well, but we were busy again with a wakeboarding show and some promotion of equipment. The EFPT season is over, I attend just two events: in Alacati I finished on 8^th place and Naxos on a very good 5^th place. Overall I finished on 11^th place just after two events. This are the best results so far so I'm happier than ever before. Also PWA season was super good for me. It was my first year and I finished on 13^th place overall, which is pretty awesome for me!

That's it... next week we have Slovenian championship, so that will be finally the last competition this year.

"Mixing freestyle with bottom turning"

Program: TwinTip Wave

A revolutionary twintip concept has been further improved. The new Venom 2010, with a new construction technology , and the new outline and tip design technology bring life to unlimited possibilities of use on this model. It can be used both with and without the tips to be switched from a full-on freestyle flat short board to a serious wave board with hi-nose kick. It is the perfect board to approach the waves easily and mix freestyle to wave riding!

The Venom is a fantastic concept: is a twintip board that allows you to ride in waves because of the twin fin tips configuration and the softer rails of the boards with a little TUE. The size of the board is 142 x 42 and this year for the first time we designed a board with the tips that are removable, so you can remove the tips and use the board in freestyle configuration, while if you put the tips you can use the board in waves.
The board has a great low end because of the straight rocker line in the middle section, so the board start to get going and to get upwind really fast, but as soon as you start to turn in the waves you feel that the boards it's easy to turn as a twintip board should be, but the boards keeps momentum because of the flatter section. In the mean time, the tips forgive a lot of mistakes, allowing to leaning too much forward or backward while surfing, without the board catching or slowing down too much.
So this tips configuration makes even easier approach to the waves and the fact of having a full symmetrical outline and a twin tip stance, will allows to do all the freestyle manoeuvres full on.

Rrd austrian style contest

Sick,.....

I am sick! Literally!
I have been in bed with fever since I returned from the Rrd austrian style competition this sunday.
After a day of rest last wednesday from a 36 hour car drive back from the efpt contest in Naxos with my fellow Rrd team rider Andraz Zan, I arrived at the contest site on lake Neusiedl on thursday morning.
The conditions that greeted me were sick too,... 8 bft super choppy water and temperatures on the lowest limit! Still, all competitors were motivated and competition got underway.
Mentionable is the format that was held, not a classic man on man elimination, instead 7 minute runs were scored with points and the best two runs were counted in total.
After three runs overpowered on 4.0 sails no one was able to sail more as it was just too cold. I was happy to finish the day in this difficult conditions leading with the highest score of 60 pts.
Friday was equally cold just the wind was way less, so we did another two runs for everyone this time on 5.3, before the wind died down. I could catch some good gusts in my heats and managed to score another perfect 60 pts...
No suitable conditions the rest of the weekend, so I was announced the winner on sunday afternoon.
I am happy to defend my title from last year, and look forward for next year.

Danish Championship feed back

Hey everybody.

We just had the Danish championship here in Denmark. The conditions was really challenging and it was really cold. But we got a result through in both freestyle and waves. I won the freestyle title for the third consecutive time and I finished 3'rd in waves. I was using the RRD WaveTwin 82 and the freestyle TwinTip 100. Both boards was working really well!!!

Abel tested a new religion!

RRD RELIGION KITES

This history starts in June 2009, when Werther (RRD Kite designer) arrived in Tarifa with a new kite concept: the new RRD wave kite. New materials, new shape and a new style for the revolution of the kitesurfing in the waves!
After Tarifa we visited Portugal (Guincho, Costa Caparica, Santa Cruz…), Galicia (my home spot), Morocco (Dakhla wave spots) and now it’s already October and I am in Brazil, and finally I can say that the Religion it’s more than ready to be one of the top kites in the marked. Right now.

It was not only Roberto, Werther and me who developed the kite, since we also hade good help from the RRD dealers and also some good wave riders who give to us feed back that helped us to create and develope and tune this new concept that the religion has.

The religion has all that a wave rider is looking for: fast movement, a constant pull on the bottom, a nice pop to jump over the waves, never fly backwards, all the sizes you want (5m, 6m, 7m, 8m, 9m, 10m, 11m) and in my opinion also one of the most important things... it’s unbreakable!
Well I can talk for hours about the Religion, but now I am in Brazil and I don'’t want to sit here and spend too much time in writing. I want to go in the waves and have fun with my new Religion.
Soon you will have the opportunities to enjoy the Religion like I will do in few minutes, so be patient!

Molt es va fer pregar la entrada de vent a Pals, però quan ha fet, ens ha regalat un dia d'aquells que recordarem durant temps. I la setmana actual per qui ho pot aprofitar...
Dissabte varem tenir que pujar a La Franqui per trobar bon vent (per 4,7m) i diumenge a St Cipriane (4,7m també). Peró Diumenge a partir de les 14:00 la previsió donava per Pals...
De bon matí sorprenia la calma a la platja de Pals ple de turistes prenent el sol... però una onada totalment glassy feia presagiar una sessió d'alta qualitat. Diversos surfistes locals i amb paddel estaven gaudint com si fos la platja de Waikiki.

El busca anava avisant de la entrada de la Tramuntana, primer Port de bon matí (fort i ratxejat, diuen) després Ampuriabrava després Sant Pere... a mida que s'acostava les 14h s'omplia de windsurfistes expectants.

A les 14:00 va entrar un F5 de cop. Alguns ja teníem les veles muntades a punt per sortir.... la primera sessió amb 5,2m i la nova RRD Truster 84l, va ser la millor. Onades netes, llargues i ordenades, surf sense pressió a la vela un somni. Després va anar pujant el vent i es podia saltar molt alt la majoria ja portaven 4,7m. Vaig immortalitzar alguns surf i backloops amb la càmera GoPro, però una vegada a casa un error meu em va fer esborrar tot...!

Cap a les 16 hores el vent ja estava fort de debò. Era el moment de muntar la 4,0m i estrenar la RRD Truster 68litres. Es va posar dur de veritat en algun moment. Em va sorprendre el control de la nova taula en els surf... era com començar una altra sessió!

Cap a les 19 ja quedàvem pocs a l'aigua, cansat i feliç sortia convençut que recordaria aquest 12 d'Octubre per molt temps.

Hola Surfistas!


La Tramontana se ha hecho esperar mucho este Otoño, pero cuando lo ha entrado ha sido de gran calidad y durante días....
Toda la semana con condiciones de olas excepcionales.

Por la mañana sorprendía la calma en Pals con turistas tomando el sol... pero una ola glassy presagiaba una sesión de gran calidad.
Diversos surfistas locales estaban disfrutando como si estuvieran en la playa de Waikiki.

Ante la llegada prevista de viento la playa iba llenándose de windsurfistas expectantes.

A las 14:00 entró un F5 de golpe. La primera sesión, 5,2m y la nueva RRD Truster 84l.
Olas limpias largas y ordenadas, un sueño. En una hora ya estaba para 4,7m

Las grabaciones y fotos con la cámara GoPro se me borraron por error...!

Hacia las 16 horas el viento ya era fuerte de verdad. Era el momento de montar 4,0m y la nueva RRD wave Truster 68l...
empezaba otra sesión!


Hacia las 19 horas ya aguantábamos pocos en el agua. Cansado y feliz me retiré con el convencimiento que recordaria esta sesión durante tiempo.

Kite Race Monotypie - Dunkerque

2nd Event of the K-Race monotype "Dunkerque 03/04 October 2009"

No ranking official results for this Dunkerque event, but still a nice funny race

Funny Race at Dunkerque.

No race on Saturday, wind Force 7 gust 8 (Safety difficult on the beach as on water, + sailing conditions very difficult and too selective)

The appointment has been given on Sunday morning on the beach Dunkerque, 35 competitors were ready right at early in the morning to run and validate the race in a wind announced toning down earlier after noon. But as soon as the 1st heat started wind decreased significantly, allowing neither to finish the first heat!

At 15:00 a shy 10 kts breath for 1 hour and half on the beach, allowing to launch many heats of a Funny Race races for the delight of racers left on the beach and the public very attracted by so many departures right from beach and race so close to the beach.

Even without an official ranking, the Dunkerque event showed beautiful things, first of all a very young audience who were enrolled (over 15 riders between 14 and 19 years) all motivated to start on "The Race", the "Veterans "(20/40ans) have found old racing feeling and excitement and especially the desire to pull the bar of 8 knots of wind with"only "1 raceboard and a 12 m²!

Max Derxel won 3 rounds of Funny Race, and so he step on the first spot of the podium at the end of the event. This young and very promising freestylers from Dunkerque has also demonstrated a very rapid adaptation to race. Anyway, during the 4 rounds the crowd watched a good fight between Nicolas Vienna, Eric Depannemaecker, Vincent Joly the main actor of the event and always on the podium on each round.

2eme Etape de le Kite Race Monotype "Dunkerque 03/04 octobre 2009"

Pas de classement officiel pour l'étape Dunkerquoise, mais tout de même une belle funy Race de courue

Funny Race a Dunkerque.
Pas de course le Samedi, Grand Frais Force 7 rafale a 8 (Sécurité difficile a terre comme sur l'eau, + des conditions de navigation très difficiles et trop sélectives)
Le rendez vous a donc été donné le Dimanche matin sur la plage Dunkerquoise, 35 concurrents présents très tôt le matin pour courir et valider la Race dans un vent annoncé mollissant en début d'apres midi. la 1er poule lancée est hélas rapidement annulée.... plus de vent.
A 15h00 un timide 10 nds souffle pendant 1h30 sur la plage, permettant de lancer une Funy Race plusieurs manches sont courues pour le plus grand plaisir des coureurs restés sur place et un public très nombreux attiré par ses départs de plage et course si prés de la digue.
L'étape Dunkerquoise sans classement officiel laisse envisager de belles choses, c'est d'abord un public très jeune qui était inscrit (+ de 15 riders entre 14 et 19 ans) tous sur motivés pour recommencer "La Race", les "Anciens" (20/40ans) ont retrouvé d'anciennes sensations de windsurfer Racer et surtout l'envie de se tirer la bourre des 8 nds de vent avec "seulement" 1 planche de Race et une 12 m²!!!
3 manches de Funy Race et C'est Max Derxel qui s'impose. Ce jeune et très prometteur Freestyleur Dunkerquois a également démontré une très rapide adaptation a la Race. Sur les 4 manches courues se sont a chaque fois de belle bagarre, Nicolas Vienne, Eric Depannemaecker, et Vincent Joly voila les protagonistes au podium sur chacune des manches.
