Seb: Update Cabarete PKRA Day 1 & 2.,

The 3rd stop of the PKRA in Cabarete, (Dominican Republic) just
started yesterday. With only 3 judges, all the heats are runned man on
man. It takes more time.
Yesterday, we did only the first round of the man where I rode against
Hurtado (from Venezuela). And I won 3-0.
Today, the compétition started at 12 with the 2nd round of the mens.
The wind is pretty light, good to ride on 12.
I first went against Luke Whiteside for a 3-0 victory. Then I been up
against Youri Zoon in 1/4 final. I rode very well in all the heats,
and especially on this one, I really went full power on every single
trick. But it seem it was not enough against Youri's style. He won
this one.
Still the double elimination to Run until the 20th.

Windsurfing Slalom Championships Day 3 Texel

Day 3
Texel Grand Prix Slalom Windsurfing Championships

Also on the third day of the Grand Prix Championship Slalom was windy.During the morning the wind shifted direction north and rose to over 20 knots.

Julien Quentel still holds overall first place but today's results ended up being his discards! Ben van der Steen, winner of round 3 the day before, started early, was disqualified and had to join the spectators on the beach to watch the round 4 final. The final of the 4th round elimination was a French get-together. Julien Quentel is initially on the overall first place, but then he was overtaken by Mortefon Pierre (FRA 14) and Toscelli Pascal (FRA-916).

Pierre Mortefon (FRA 14) and Wojtek Brozozowski (POL 10) were today's round winners.

Friday is the last day for elimination rounds, and the sixteen best windsurfers will compete Saturday at the European Championship.

PROVISIONAL RESULT AFTER RACE 5

Thursday, 17 June 2010

A beautiful windy day on Texel!

IFCA Slalom European Championships 2010
Julien Quentel (FRA 421) won the second elimination round to consolidate his claim for the Championship title. The conditions were good yet the Frenchman still had waves to contend with which knocked back the speed. Dutchman Peter Volwater (H24) was second and Pierre Mortefon from France third.

Race Officer, Bruno de Wannemaeker was taking no chances and used the wind today. An average of twenty knots of wind from the northeast made for a spectacular third round. Dutchman Ben van der Steen (NED57) won the third elimination round beating the Frenchman Julien Quentel into second place, followed by Israeli Arnon Dagan third.

Julien Quentel title contender remains top of the list.

Overall Ranking after two days racing, three eliminations

1) Julien Quentel (FRA 421)
2) Nicolas Warembourg (FRA 531)
3) Mortefon Pierre (FRA 14)
4) Peter Volwater (NED 24)
5) Wojtek Brozozowski (POL10)

SUP in Dutch town Edam

Hi!

Two weeks ago there was a SUP race in the canals of the Dutch town Edam (near Volendam). I used the RRD Cruiser 12'0, which didn't help me to win the race against the guys...But next time there will be a race I'm in! But then only against the girls, wow, you need some power to paddle 1.5 km.

It was really good fun. See attached some pictures of the idyllic route in the small canals.

Ciao!

Marije

New Video - Mathias Genkel in France 2

Hi,

I am currently in Lefkada to compete in the EFPT.

While windsurfing here, my friend Johannes Neumann from http://rock-n-rohwurst.de
finished our second video clip. Check it out:

Finian: CB blog words

The PWA event in Costa Brava has just finished. It was a difficult
week for both me personally and also in terms of catching enough wind
to get through some races. In the 1st round final, I was poised for a
big result with a full speed start in a great position and I was
feeling very tuned on my 112 and 8.4. But it was not to be, I was
called over the line early by a half second which was a situation I
would come to regret as the week went on, I felt that I could have
scored a bullet, at least a top 3.

In the 2nd round, I had a similar situation happen as in Korea that
cost me the podium whereby I was leading the semifinal when the wind
suddenly died just before the 1st mark. On the re-run, I had a bad
start and then a collision at the 1st mark battling for 4th with Ross,
I was out of the final. This is the flow of racing working against me
but no problem, I am confident I can turn things around in
Fuerteventura and get back fighting for the top places. The boards
feel really good, I am happy with the shapes and I think I can
challenge again soon.

Good sailing, Finian

Jesper report Costa B

Hi

Here is a report from here.

We had a good day of racing the first day of competition with a gusty
side shore wind and very choppy conditions.

I went through first and second round and them had a "over early" in
the losers final and got a 16th place. I was quite happy with my speed
so it was a shame I pushed it a little to far on the start line.
The RRD Xfire 122 was just "eating' up the choppy water easily and
comfort was not an issue.

Day 2 we had no wind. On day 3 we completed 6 heats and I was in heat
8 so had to wait until the next day to complete it.

Day 4 I won my heat passing Bjoern at one of the marks where he got
caught a bit with not much wind. The 122 worked very efficient in the
jibes. In the quarterfinal I did not have the best start but was
catching up and could attack on the jibe for a position in the semi-
final. I pushed a little too much and made a 180 with the sail, trying
to jump on to the other side of the sail, but did not manage and fell
in the water. I lost many points so it was a stupid mistake,, Anyway
I was pushing and this is what's happening sometimes.

I'm currently in 20th position.

Looking at the other RRD teamriders Finian , Julian, Pacalli and
Tine's performance from the beach I could see they all had great board
speed and control.

Ciao

Jesper

Behind Surfin'Venice

SurfingVenice SUP test from TheInsider on Vimeo.

It's pretty a while that at RRD we're working to this great event called Surfin'Venice.

The main idea was launched last fall.
Then it take pretty a while to find a meeting date good for everybody.
And it was already February 2010 when we had the first check to find a place good enough to start the parade and another one suitable for the RRD village, and the race course as well.
At that time, Miki Eskimo was the only one who paddled on the Venice's channels, so we discovered that we need to test on a paddle board the parade course to verify how much difficult was to keep the balance when the motor-boat pass you by, how time it takes to make the whole course from the start at Piazzale Tronchetto until Campo S. Biasio, and many details like this.

So the test day was a pretty cold and grey day of April, and we discovered that:
- if you are just a little use to manage a SUP board at the sea, it's very easy to keep balance Canal Grande, since the water il completely flat, and the slow the traffic generates mainly small chop.
- You always have to stay concentrated on what you're doing, since there are a lot of beautiful things that make you turn around the head! Be careful, since to fall in the water in Venice is prohibited!
- Chop become more powerful and tricky in Canale della Giudecca (the place where Michy Eskimo is paddling on the event poster picture), in front of Piazza S.Marco, where boats are more, bigger and their speed is higher.
Bend your knees and go on paddling! A few hundred of meters and you've done it!
- Canal Grande is the longest Venice Channel. It's about 6 km long. So you need to be in a decent shape to cover this distance paddling until the end.
- To paddle following an historical Venetian rowing boat is not just cool, but very useful as well, since this way you're always sure that other boats will see you and you will always be in the right place at the right moment, avoiding to cross boats way in a dangerous way.
That's why the 100 SUP riders will be divided in 10 groups following 10 historical Venetian rowing boat keeping a right distance from the others to allow an healthy flow of the typical Venetian boat traffic along it's principal way.

And so... what's going on?
Are you ready to join the family?

check it out how to do it

MOULAY GOES OFF!!!

To finish of the clinic in style the conditions turned on big time for
the last couple days, climaxing today with over mast high lines and
4.0 weather. The guys were all tested to the extreme and most came out
with flying colours. I managed to have a couple of really good
sessions too, sailing with Boujma, Fettah, Sofian and of course Nayra
and all the guys on the course. There were definitely some big jumps,
but no matter how high I go, the locals go higher! Definitely good for
pushing yourself!! Check out the pics from the Rod and Phil.

Ireland report

RRD had a fantastic event at the Ireland BWA competition. Katie
McAnena won her first event ever using her Wave Twin 74 to good effect
in the small but rippable waves. In the Ameteurs Adam Simms sailed
brilliantly to come through the double elimination and take the win
after beating the tour leader 2 times. In the masters, Scottish legend
and RRD rider Davey Edminson took 2nd place, even though he had to
leave the event early to get back to work. I had to settle for 2nd
place in the pro division after a terrible final. Up until the last 30
seconds I was in last place but managed to find a wave in the dying
seconds and just about do enough to get into second. Obviously it
would have been good to win, but at least 2nd puts me in a good
position to go for the title again this year.

So overall two 1st places and two 2nd places is a great result for the
RRD team.

Check out the shots of everyone ripping.
