Finian Maynard secures lead of the 2009 Speed World Cup

Another bullet for Finian Maynard (BVI) at the 2009 ISWC worlds
. He is leading the competition now with a perfect score of 3.5 points after seven races and 2 discards ahead of Antoine Albeau (FRA) with 9.7 points and Anders Bringdal (SWE) with 14 points.

In the womens fleet, Valerie Ghibaudo (FRA, Loft Sails) scored her 8th consecutive victory in this competition and has won the title already before the final day of the competition. Marion Raisi (FRA) is in second with 10 points and Marie-Paule Geldhof (BEL) in third with 16 points.

The rest of the 7th round was completed today in light wind conditions, which still allowed for top speeds of almost 39 knots, another time Finian Maynard was dominating the heat and took victory ahead of Anders Bringdal and Jacques van der Hout (NED). Still, Antoine moved up in the overall ranking due to the second discard.

The 8th round commenced then with the silver fleet, but the conditions became too light then to finalize the round with the gold fleet.

Skippersmeeting is set to 10:00 tomorrow, the last day of the competition and we hope to get enough wind to get the gold fleet on the water.

Overall standings men after 7 rounds:
1. Finian Maynard (BVI)
2. Antoine Albeau (FRA)
3. Anders Bringdal (SWE)

Overall standings women after 8 rounds:

  1. What model board is Finian using?

  2. Finian used a custom board made in Grosseto (Italy) in the RRD Custom Factory. We're talking about a brand new RRD Custom 54 speed/slalom that he designed together with RRD shaper Aurelio Verdi... it seems that this prototype board works pretty fine and hopefully we'll see in production inside the next year X-Fire boards range...
