Finian Maynard is leading the 2009 ISWC Worlds

Finian Maynard (BVI) seems to be the man to beat at this years Speed Windsurfing World Championship. After three rounds he is in the lead ahead of Antoine Albeau (FRA) and Anders Bringdal (SWE). In the womens fleet, Valerie Ghibaudo (FRA, Loft Sails) leads with three bullets ahead of Marion Raisi (FRA) and Birgit Hofer.

The event started with a skippersmeeting at 08:00 were all riders were briefed about the course and the rules.

The seeding for the first silver and gold fleet was done strictly by the current world ranking standings, and the silver fleet got underway at 09:00. The following gold fleet heat was won by Finian Maynard ahead of Antoine Albeau, Hans Kreisel (NED) was the big surprise in third.

The second leg was also a full silver/gold combination, this time seeing Dirk Jan Knol (NED, Loft Sails) in the lead. A big success for the newcomer. Second Antoine Albeau and Anders Bringdal in third.

As the wind picked up, the race committee decided to go for a full fleet race, and send out all 50 riders to the water. Finian Maynard proved another time to be back in shape and won in style ahead of last years winner Bjorn Dunkerbeck and defending world champion Antoine Albeau.
